Lactation Mastitis
Mastitis is a condition that usually affects breast-feeding women. If after breastfeeding, the breast does not empty out completely, the remaining milk can cause blockage in the milk ducts & lead to infection. At times, bacteria may also enter the milk ducts through a break or crack in the nipples.

• Painful & inflamed breast

Causes:
• Blockage in milk ducts

Food groups to consume in lactation mastitis:
1. Liquids: Improves blood circulation and prevents clogging of
milk ducts
Foods to consume: Water, juices, buttermilk, coconut water and barley water
2. Vitamins & antioxidants: Fights infection
Foods to consume: Carrots, spinach, beetroots, corn, broccoli, bell peppers, oranges, kiwi, watermelon, mango and strawberries
3. Fats: Reduces inflammation
Foods to consume: Olive oil, rice bran oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, flax seeds, fish like salmon, tuna & mackerel.

Recipes based on the above food groups:
Recipe 1: Kiwi & watermelon salad
1. Add 1 cup diced kiwi in a bowl
2. Now, add 1 cup diced watermelon
3. Add 1 cup green gram sprouts
4. Now add 1 tbsp chopped basil (tulsi) leaves
5. Also add 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Lets now keep this aside and make a dressing for this salad
6. Take 1 tbsp of lemon juice in a small bowl
7. Add zest of ½ lemon to it, about ½ tsp
8. And 1 tsp of finely chopped ginger. Also add 1 tsp sesame oil
9. Add salt and then pepper to taste
10. Mix this well. Your dressing is ready
11. Add this dressing into the salad
12. Toss well & serve
This delicious salad looks colorful and can be had any time of the day
Recipe 2: Baby corn stir fry
1. Heat 2 tsp oil in a fry pan
2. Take 1 cup of blanched baby corn
3. Add ½ cup chopped spring onions,
4. Now add 1 cup diced yellow and red bell pepper
5. Sauté for 2 min on high flame
6. Reduce the heat to medium and add 2 tbsp light soy sauce
7. Add 1 tbsp white vinegar
8. Salt and pepper to taste
9. Mix well and serve hot
